
Strain appeared to be swelling on the Centre on Saturday for effective involvement in Orissa in the arouse of continuing violence against Christians by Sangh Parivar and the demand for imposition of President's rule.
The Centre is unhappy with the Naveen Patnaik government for the violence in the state against the Christian community.
The situation in Orissa acquired greater attention from the Centre after the embarrassment suffered by the Prime Minister when he met the leaders of the EU in France during the week when they raised the issue of attacks on Christians.
Home Minister Shivraj Patil asked by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at Cabinet meeting to come out with an evaluation of the situation, is understood to have sought a report from the Governor.
Patil, in his letter to Patnaik, pointed out that over 7,000 personnel of central para-military forces have been made available to the state after trouble broke out in December last year.
Patil also pointed out that the helicopter provided to Orissa was used only for rescue and not for transportation of troops.
The Union Cabinet at its meeting on Friday uttered grave concern over the situation in the state and the Prime Minister asked Patil to give an review of the situation at the next meeting.
